Löwchen
Share
Löwchen are lesser-known domestic dogs in our latitudes. They are small and extremely easy to care for, although their name ("lion dog" in German) suggests otherwise. They were originally bred in France to entertain their owners. Löwchen are perfect dogs for beginners and families with children, and they should not be underestimated.

Löwchen - Special characteristics
Löwchen are lesser-known domestic dogs in our latitudes. They are small and extremely easy to care for, although their name ("lion dog" in German) suggests otherwise. They were originally bred in France to entertain their owners. Löwchen are perfect dogs for beginners and families with children, and they should not be underestimated.
Löwchen - What should be considered regarding nutrition?
The diet of Löwchen does not require any special food, so normal, natural dog food with small chunks for small breeds is suitable. The amount of food should be carefully controlled, as dogs that do not exercise much can tend to be overweight . A good food is characterized by a high meat content, e.g. camel meat for dogs , and the absence of sugar, attractants or flavorings. Leftovers should be avoided to protect the dog's health and teeth.
Löwchen - Health and Care
Grooming the Löwchen requires regular brushing of the long coat, at least twice a week, to prevent matting. After each walk, the coat should be brushed briefly to remove dirt. The eyes should be kept free of hair so as not to impair vision. The fur on the bottom should be trimmed regularly for hygiene reasons, and the ears should be checked for possible infections. Since the Löwchen has no undercoat, it is sensitive to cold and heat. It should be kept warm in winter, and sun protection is important in summer. The paws should also be checked regularly, and the pads can be cared for with Vaseline or balm.

Löwchen - Origin & History
Löwchens existed as early as the Middle Ages and were used as lap dogs and companion dogs for ladies. They were appreciated throughout Europe, but their country of origin was later recorded as France. Over time, they became increasingly rare until there were only about 40 left. A Belgian breeder saved the breed from extinction, and it has been bred more and more since then. The British Kennel Club recognized the breed in 1976, and it has been officially recognized by the FCI since 1995.
Löwchen - The right accessories
Grooming your Löwchen requires a decent brush for long fur and small scissors to trim the fur around the eyes, bottom, paws and ears. A good dog shampoo should also be available, but only wash your dog when it is really necessary so as not to damage his natural protective film. Basic equipment includes bowls , a place to sleep, a collar or harness . A winter coat can also be useful.
Conclusion
The Löwchen is a charming and rare lap dog with a royal past. They are affectionate and love to be pampered. The long coat requires regular grooming, but they are perfect companions for people looking for a cute and loving pet.
